Well, it's been a while since I've made a new blog entry. There's been a lot that has happened in the past few months.
I've dumped the ModernBill billing system and switched to WHM-Complete-Solution which seems much easier to use and integrates (visually) very well with the Joomla template for my site.
My server was moved from Chicago to Texas some months ago and just recently the Texas datacenter experienced an electrical explosion and fire which caused some downtime (about 36 hours). I'm sure the datacenter people would have been able to restore service much sooner if the fire-control people would have allowed access to the affected area sooner. Fortunately, there was no damage or data-loss on the server and the server was quickly relocated to another floor. |

Well, I've been evaluating ModernBill 5 and I think I'm going to switch over from v.4 to v.5.
Sigh... I'll have to re-do the order form integration all over again.

Hurrah! I finally got the hosting order form in Joomla with SSL! It took a couple of core hacks but it works! Now, I hope SSL will still work with VirtueMart if I ever need to use it. |

I've come to realize that I'm one of those technically inclined and creatively challenged people.
It's pretty easy for me to understand the inner workings of a PC and to learn how to use new applications. I can install and set up a website in practically no time at all. But when it comes to making all those graphics used on this site I find myself quite challenged and it takes me hours to make something that looks decent.
I'm hoping that a creatively inclined person I recently became acquainted with via the Joomla forum will be able to fill in where my lack of creative skills are overtaxed.

Well I finally got ModernBill set up so it will actually create a server account when a user signs up for a hosting plan. Part of the problem was the Dolphin theme it uses by default has a blue color that made some of the links very hard to see since the links were also blue. Well, I just changed the theme to the mostly-text version and it looks much cleaner and more readable now.
Learning to use ModernBill seems more complicated than learning a new accounting package (like QuickBooks or Peachtree). In addition to all the accounting and user management stuff it has all the other technical stuff to learn like making it talk to the server and setting up cron jobs.
I'll just have to keep my nose to the grindstone and plow on.
